Antegenes & Prevent Cancer UK join Prostate Cancer Research’s ‘Proactive for your Prostate’ campaign calling for a targeted prostate cancer screening programme in the UK.
Estonian-founded personalised cancer prevention company Antegenes has joined the campaign, being spearheaded by Prostate Cancer Research (PCR), as a Proactive Champion. Working with PCR, Proactive Champions aim to raise awareness of the potential for earlier, more targeted prostate cancer screening.
“We’re excited to welcome Antegenes to our Proactive Champions network,” said Angharad Jones, Corporate Partnerships Manager at PCR, “The campaign calls for a national screening programme for men at higher risk of prostate cancer. Antegenes will play an important role in raising awareness of our campaign, helping us to ensure that earlier detection and faster diagnosis become a reality.”
“Polygenic risk scores can help identify men at elevated risk years before symptoms arise,” said Dr Peeter Padrik, CEO of Antegenes, “We’re delighted to support the Proactive for your Prostate campaign for a national screening programme as, through our own work, we know that early detection of prostate cancer can make all the difference and will help save thousands of men’s lives.’’
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in UK men – affecting 1 in 8 over their lifetime, with more than 63,000 new cases and 12,000 deaths each year. Yet it often remains undetected until symptoms appear and treatment options are limited.
Antegenes and the Prevent Cancer UK platform are proud to support Prostate Cancer Research’s mission to change this. Prevent Cancer UK is a consortium of health organisations supporting the use of polygenic risk scoring (PRS) to allow people to take an active role in understanding their cancer risk and taking preventative steps.
Antegenes and the Prevent Cancer UK platform have a commitment to making screening smarter, more accessible, and more meaningful – by supporting innovation, policy change, and personalised tools that help men act earlier. Only through earlier detection can we truly reduce the burden of prostate cancer – on individual men, their families, the NHS, and society at large.
